Je zag een zwaarlijvige, zwarte man, met haren glimmend van de brillantine, die heen en weer wiegde op een van de meest gemoedelijke melodieën in de rock ‘n’ roll.
Alleen de blazers gaven zo nu en dan een zetje om de deining erin te houden. het leek alsof Fats Domino in een hangmat ‘Blueberry Hill’ vertolkte in plaats van achter de piano.
Het zal het bekendste beeld zijn van de rock ‘n’ roll-veteraan.
De man die in de jaren vijftig, op Elvis Presley na, met meer dan 65 miljoen platen de beste verkochte rock ‘n’ roll-artiest was. Op 24 oktober 2017 overleed Fats op 89-jarige leeftijd in New Orleans.
